A. Accessory storage container: a storage container that is an accessory use for which a building permit has been issued in accordance with the Town of Holland Building and Zoning Codes.
B. Cargo container: a standardized reusable vessel, which is usually made of steel, that was:
(1) Originally designed for or used in packing of shipping, movement or transportation of freight, articles, goods, or commodities; and/or
(2) Originally designed for or capable of being mounted or moved by rail, truck, or ship by means of being mounted on a chassis or similar transport device. Transportation containers, shipping containers, storage containers and portable site containers, having a similar appearance to and similar characteristics of cargo containers, shall be included in the definition of "cargo containers." All types mentioned in this section shall be referred to as "container(s)."
C. Intent. The Town of Holland has enacted the following provisions to establish minimum development standards for the placement of containers within the Town of Holland, New York. These standards are designed to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the community, preserve property values, and protect health, safety, and welfare.
D. Permitted zoning and development standards. Placement of containers shall be subject to the following limitations:
(1) Containers shall not be allowed as a principal use in any zone.
(2) Containers shall be an accessory use for storage and shall not be used for habitable space and shall be deemed a permanent structure.
(3) Except as otherwise provided, containers shall be allowed in all zones on a temporary basis during construction, grading operations or agricultural operations when utilized solely for storage of supplies and equipment that are used for the construction, grading, or agricultural operations on that site.
